One of travelers’ favorite ways to get around when visiting any destination is to use rideshare apps like Uber.
Although not available for drop off and pick up at the airport, Uber is available to use to get around Los Cabos, but there’s an issue in the destination with illegal drivers.
Now Los Cabos is cracking down on those illegal rideshare drivers, so read on to find out how to spot them.
Illegal Rideshare Drivers In Los Cabos – The Extent Of The Problem
According to recent reports, over 60 rideshare platform drivers have been sanctioned within a two-month period.
The sanctions were given to drivers who did not have the required certificate to operate as a rideshare driver.
Sanctions can include fines and even confiscation of the vehicle.
Why Getting In The Vehicle With An Illegal Driver Can Be Dangerous
For tourists visiting the destination, riding with illegal rideshare drivers can be dangerous for two reasons.
One, there’s no way to know if they have the proper insurance to cover you if an accident should occur.
Second, there’s no information on the driver, who, for all you know could be a criminal with bad intentions.
How To Spot Illegal Rideshare Drivers
There’s nothing that stands out about a vehicle or driver that isn’t legal to offer rideshare services.
However, they are required to carry their certification with them.
If you don’t see it or if you ask to see it and they refuse to show it to you, you may want to think twice about getting into the vehicle, because there’s a good chance that they are operating illegally.
Is Using Rideshare Apps Safe In Los Cabos
Over the last couple of years, there have been issues between rideshare drivers and taxi drivers that have led to scary incidents for passengers.
Most of those incidents involved passengers being made to get out of the rideshare vehicle or taxi drivers blocking the vehicle so that it couldn’t get to its destination.
Other than dealing with those incidents, rideshares are safe to use when visiting Los Cabos.
Other Pirate Transportation To Watch Out For
Rideshare drivers are not the only transportation providers that operate illegally in Los Cabos.
Pirate, or fake, taxi drivers are also a problem in the destination.
Officials have been working to crack down on them as well, but it’s still an issue that you should be aware of.
Other Transportation Options In Los Cabos
Fortunately, several different types of transportation are available in Los Cabos, so you don’t have to use taxis or Uber if you don’t want to.
Public transportation is available and is an inexpensive way to get around.
Shuttles also run to and from the airport, and most hotels provide transportation to and from the airport, either included with a special offer or for a fee.
One of the best options, though, is private transportation, which can be pricey but much more comfortable and convenient.
The Benefits Of Booking Transportation In Advance
Several of the different types of transportation available can be booked in advance, and there are several benefits to doing so.
Booking in advance often saves you money, sometimes as much as half of what you would pay booking upon arrival.
Booking in advance also means knowing what you’re paying ahead of time.
There’s also the safety factor because you’ll know that you’re booking with a reputable company.
Last but not least, you can have your driver waiting for you when you arrive at the airport, so there’s no delay in getting your Los Cabos vacation started.

I feel safer in an Uber, than a Taxi. You know the Make of the Car, the Number Place and a brief note on the Driver.
