Los Cabos is all in when it comes to the luxury travel segment visitor.

In fact, according to Baja California Sur Secretary of Tourism and Economy Rosa Maribel Collins Sánchez, Los Cabos really stands out in the entire nation when it comes to attracting this key customer segment.

Attracting the Affluent

In Baja California Sur, there are more than 28,000 hotel rooms available for all tourists visiting the area. According to the Baja California Sur Secretary of Tourism and Economy, more than 60 percent of the rooms, or a total of 18,000 rooms, are oriented towards the luxury travel segment.

According to Secretary Collins Sánchez, Los Cabos really stands out above the rest on national rankings of amenities attracting this important segment of customers.

This effort has been on the radar of local Los Cabos municipal and tourism officials who have been working closely with a number of key stakeholders to improve and enhance amenities the more upscale resort traveler desires.

Their work is finally starting to gain some traction, to the delight of Los Cabos visitors.

Amenities, Amenities, and More Amenities

Los Cabos is shifting away from its Spring Break destination traditions to more of a luxury destination for affluent customers.

Not only do affluent customers stay longer, pay higher room rates, enjoy shopping and spend more on meals in Los Cabos, but they also contribute to the potential for higher wages and tips for local service workers.

Hotel rooms in Los Cabos are being upgraded into resort-style destination getaways that rival spa rooms with posh furniture.

Fine dining restaurants are becoming the norm in Los Cabos instead of low priced bar locations. It will not be long before a celebrity or Michelin star chef calls Los Cabos home.

There are more rooms and amenities on the way to appeal to affluent customers in Los Cabos. According to Secretary Collins Sánchez, three more hotel chains are coming to Los Cabos soon, which will add an additional 600 luxury hotel rooms to the premier Mexican beach resort destination.

However, Los Cabos has much more work to do before being able to provide the key basic services most affluent consumers desire.

There has been an active effort among local government officials to address some issues in Los Cabos, including crime, traffic, trash, road, and technology infrastructure upgrades.

While many of these efforts are currently underway, with support from both the state and federal government, there is still work to be done throughout Los Cabos to help support the types of services demanded by higher-end and more affluent customers.

In the meantime, Los Cabos travelers have been reacting positively to changes already being made. The levels of tourist traffic in Los Cabos just over this current peak spring travel season is up significantly over year-ago levels.

With more and more amenities and activities available for travelers visiting Los Cabos, it appears the premier Mexican resort destination is on the right track to transform itself into the luxury destination that local businesses and guests both would like to see.

“We are very happy with the arrival of this segment,” added Baja California Sur Secretary of Tourism and Economy Secretary Collins Sánchez.
