Medano Beach is the vibrant, beating heart of Cabo San Lucas. It’s the destination’s most famous and beloved stretch of sand, a place where visitors from around the world gather to swim in the calm, turquoise waters and gaze at The Arch. Keeping this iconic beach pristine is a massive undertaking, and a recent community effort just highlighted how important that job is.

This week, a massive deep-sea and beach cleanup was carried out on Medano Beach by the Municipal Coordination of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat), along with a dedicated army of local volunteers, dive groups like CaboTrek, and students.
The results were astonishing. Volunteers pulled 25 tires from the seabed, along with plastic bags, PET containers, and other solid waste. On the shore, a thorough sweep collected a huge amount of micro-waste, including plastics, cans, bottle caps, and countless cigarette butts.

Here at The Cabo Sun, we see this as a powerful story. It’s a testament to the local community’s incredible passion for protecting their natural paradise. Now, authorities are asking for the help of the travelers who love this beach just as much, to ensure it stays beautiful for all future visitors.

The Mission: Preserving Paradise for Everyone
The cleanup is part of an ongoing program to prevent marine pollution and protect the fragile ecosystem. As Rafael Álvarez Munguía, the head of Zofemat in Los Cabos, put it, “The conservation of our beaches is a task for everyone; it is through collective action that we will be able to preserve this natural heritage for future generations.”

For travelers, this is a perfect opportunity to become part of the solution. By following a few simple, common-sense rules, every visitor can play a crucial role in keeping Medano Beach and all of Cabo’s shorelines pristine.
