One of the most popular tourist beaches near Los Cabos has been honored with the distinction of being one of the top ten beaches in the entire world. In fact, it was the highest-ranking beach of all in the entire country.
Number Ten in the World
Balandra Beach near La Paz was recently named the tenth-best beach in the entire world by a collection of travel influencers, journalists, and travel experts, along with the team of beach ambassadors from the website The World’s 50 Best Beaches.
According to the website, “If you were to see pictures of Playa Balandra, you could easily mistake it for the Whitsundays. However, this magical paradise is located in Baja California Sur, and it has its very own WOW-factor! Not only does the water resemble a pool, but it has also been a protected area since 2018, meaning nothing can be developed here, and there are only a limited number of visitors each day to protect the surrounding natural beauty.”
Four Rating Factors
Balandra Beach was rated on four different factors.
First was “untouched nature” where the beach was rated 8/10. It was rated high for its wide collection of sea life available for tourists to enjoy.
The second criteria was “swimmable” where the calm waters were rated a nearly perfect 9/10. In fact, the review cited the fact that the water “resembled a pool” and the “crystal clear water sometimes so shallow that you can walk across to the other side.”
The reviewers also looked at the number of annual sunny days and the average annual temperature. Both were favorable for the overall rating of Balandra Beach, with 325 annual sunny days and an average temperature of 24.3 degrees Celsius (75.74 degrees Fahrenheit).
Top Rated Beaches
The top three beaches in the world were Lucky Beach in Australia, Source D’Argent Beach in Seychelles and Hidden Beach in the Philippines.
Only two other beaches in Mexico actually made the top 50 list. At No. 33 was Hidden Beach in nearby Nayarit. Xpu Ha in Playa Del Carmen was the other Mexican beach recognized on the list of the top 50 beaches coming in at No. 35.
Why Balandra Beach is So Popular
Located about a half-hour from La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur, the beach is close enough to easily get to, yet it feels miles away from the big tourist destinations in the area.
The Los Cabos Tourism Trust identified three travel trends among international visitors to the beach resort destination last year – wellness, nature, and sustainability.
Two of these were directly connected to the popularity of Balandra Beach last year.
Balandra Beach is a special place where sustainability and nature are part of the experience for travelers. It is popular with tourists who love the opportunity to interact with several different types of sea creatures in a natural environment.
It’s also a great place for hiking in the nearby hills and enjoying the scenic views of the crystal blue turquoise waters from the cliffs.
The opportunity to connect with nature in a place where visitors are limited and the tourist impact on the beach is controlled makes Balandra Beach one of the very special beaches in the entire world.
Tips for Visitors
Because sustainability is an important part of the story behind Balandra Beach, travelers should arrive early if they plan a visit to get one of the wristbands handed out in the early morning.
Alternatively, travelers can also get one of the limited-entry wristbands by booking a guided tour.
Balandra Beach is definitely a destination that should be on the bucket list of any traveler enjoying a vacation getaway to the beach resort destination of Los Cabos.

I was there and have been to many beaches worldwide. The beaches from Cabo to La Paz are mediocre at best, they do not should not be considered in the top 10 nor 20. They have no life, some are restricted and not clean, and have fuel refineries in very near areas. Not our preferred choices. Thanks
