No one books a trip to Mexico planning to visit the emergency room. But whether it’s a slip by the pool, a severe case of dehydration, or something more serious, medical emergencies happen.
When they do, you are at your most vulnerable. You are in a foreign country, often in pain, and likely don’t speak the language fluently. This is the moment when bad actors—from taxi drivers to unethical ambulance operators—can take advantage of you.

Here at The Cabo Sun, we have tracked the reports and reviews to give you the definitive, safety-first guide to medical care in Los Cabos. There are dozens of clinics in town, but based on current 2025 standards, there are only two hospitals you should trust with your care—and one you must absolutely avoid.
The “Golden Rule” of Cabo Emergencies
Before we name the hospitals, you need to know the most critical rule of safety in Baja: Control the Destination.
There is a known issue in Los Cabos where taxi drivers and some private ambulance services receive “kickbacks” (commissions) for delivering tourists to specific hospitals. These hospitals often charge inflated rates and hold passports hostage until payment is made.
If you are able to speak, you must explicitly tell the driver or ambulance crew: “Take me to H+ or BlueNet.” Do not let them choose for you.

1. H+ Hospital Los Cabos (Best Overall)
Verdict: The Gold Standard If you have a serious emergency, this is where you want to be. Located in the Koral Center on the Tourist Corridor, H+ Hospital is widely considered the top trauma facility in the region.

Why It Wins:
- Level 1 Capabilities: It is built to handle high-level trauma, cardiac events, and complex surgeries.
- Language: The staff speaks near-perfect English, which is critical when you are trying to explain symptoms in a panic.
- Billing: It is transparent and accustomed to working with international travel insurance policies. As we noted in our guide to what happens if you get sick at a resort, having your insurance info ready when you arrive here streamlines the entire process.
Location: Tourist Corridor (km 24.5), near the Shoppes at Palmilla. It is the best option if you are staying in San José del Cabo or at a corridor resort like Grand Velas or Hilton.

2. BlueNet Hospitals (Best for Cabo San Lucas)
Verdict: The Boutique Alternative If you are staying in downtown Cabo San Lucas or near the Marina and cannot make the 20-minute drive to H+, BlueNet is your safest bet.
Why It Wins:
- Technology: Despite having a smaller, “boutique” feel, it is equipped with advanced technology, including catheterization labs and MRI machines.
- Consulate Approved: It is on the U.S. Consulate’s list of approved providers, a major trust signal.
- Transparency: Recent reviews consistently praise their clear pricing structure compared to the “mystery bills” at other local clinics.
Location: Cabo San Lucas (Cabo Bello area), just outside the main city grid.

The “Red Flag” Hospitals: Where To Avoid
Knowing where not to go is just as important.
❌ St. Luke’s Hospital (Saint Luke’s) Status: AVOID. We cannot state this clearly enough: Do not go here unless it is your only option for immediate life-saving stabilization. There are persistent reports of aggressive billing practices and the “taxi kickback” scheme we warned about. Drivers often push this location hard because they get paid to drop you off. Be firm: “No St. Luke’s.”/htm
⚠️ Hospiten (Use Caution) Status: Second Tier. Hospiten is a major international chain and generally safe for medical care. However, recent traveler reports from late 2024 and 2025 have flagged issues with administrative disputes and billing transparency. It is a viable backup if H+ or BlueNet are full, but proceed with caution regarding costs.

A Note on Payment
Remember, in Mexico, private hospitals often require payment (or a credit card hold) upfront, even if you have insurance. We have covered why having travel insurance with medical evacuation is non-negotiable for this exact reason.
Save the locations of H+ and BlueNet in your Google Maps right now. You will likely never need them, but if you do, knowing exactly where to go is the best insurance policy you can have.

Excellent care with Bluenet (its in El Tezal where all the luxury ocean view projects are; close to San Lucas downtown) for both routine and actually had emergency.
Get to know both because H+ (on San Jose side) is Level 1 Trauma center.

I agree that H+ is the best. You should also note that it has a fantastic WhatsApp communications portal. I scheduled an MRI and did the entire process through WhatsApp through a link sent to me by H+. Finally, you should clarify how "H+" is pronounced in Spanish.
