A harrowing video circulating on social media shows the terrifying reality of what can happen when the raw power of the Pacific Ocean in Los Cabos is underestimated. The footage, posted to a Cabo San Lucas news page, shows what appears to be a female tourist trapped on a jet ski in dangerously high surf, being swept helplessly towards the protective rock wall of a hotel on Medano Beach.
In the dramatic clip, the woman is thrown from the watercraft. She is then forced to dodge her own rented jet ski as it’s tossed around by the storm surge, repeatedly threatening to crush her. The ordeal, which officials confirm happened while beaches were officially closed, has prompted urgent warnings about respecting safety protocols.
Black Flags Flying as Heroes Emerge
The most critical detail of the incident is that on this particular day, black flags were flying along the coastline. A black flag is the highest level of warning, indicating that conditions are extremely hazardous and that beaches are closed to all swimming and water activities.

How the tourist was able to obtain a jet ski on a day with such clear and severe warnings remains unknown. What is clear, however, is that she is fortunate to be alive, thanks to the heroic actions of locals. The video shows several people, identified as beach vendors and hotel employees, rushing into the dangerous surf to pull her to safety just before she could be swept out again.

Locals Praised for Rescue Efforts
The incident has sparked a massive online conversation, with many viewers praising the quick thinking of the rescuers. The footage highlights the vital role that local workers play in ensuring tourist safety, a fact not lost on those commenting online.
One top comment reads, “Let’s remember for future reference that those beach vendors who some people complain about are always the first ones to help when someone needs it.”

It’s a sentiment that underscores the community’s role in looking out for visitors, even when official warnings are not heeded. Another viewer familiar with the area remarked, “Over the years I have witnessed several near drownings! It’s brutal some days. Be careful.”
An Urgent Warning from Officials
In an interview with The Cabo Sun, a city official expressed deep concern over the incident, using it as a stark reminder for all visitors.
“The safety systems we have in place, especially the beach flags, are there for a life-or-death reason. A black flag means stay out of the water. There are no exceptions,” the official stated firmly. “This incident could have very easily ended in tragedy.”

The official reiterated that even on days with calmer, yellow-flag conditions, caution is key. “You must be honest with yourself about your skill level. The Pacific is not a lake. If you have any doubt about the conditions or your ability to handle the watercraft, do not go out. It is that simple.”
The powerful shore break and strong undertows of Los Cabos can catch even experienced swimmers by surprise. The flags aren’t just decoration; they are a critical tool to ensure you go home with cherished memories! Safe travels all.

I went on a snorkeling adventure with a Party boat. I was surprised when we got there that there were no other boats. It is usually pretty crowded in that cove. Then they went on to say that snorkeling was at our risk as there were jellyfish everywhere and about a half dollar in size. The couple next to me said one of them were highly allergic reaction had been experienced in the past. They did announce they had a paramedic on board. Kind of felt duped and definitely was not going to find out is I would have an allergic reaction.
