Authorities in Los Cabos have issued a preventative storm alert for the region, anticipating that an area of instability in the Pacific could develop into a tropical system, bringing rain, high tides, and gusty winds to the tourist destination between August 26 and 28.
The warning was issued by the Municipal Civil Protection Department to ensure residents and tourists are aware of the potential for adverse weather next week. Francisco Cota Márquez, the head of the agency, emphasized the importance of preparedness in a region frequently in the path of these weather systems.

“We need to be very alert to the next storm formation expected next week,” Cota Márquez stated. “It is expected to move west-northwestward, but with some impacts of rain, storm surge, and winds for the municipality of Los Cabos. Tentatively, it could be expected around the 26th or 28th of this month.”
While the system’s exact path and intensity are still uncertain, the announcement is a standard precautionary measure for the area. So, what does this mean for travelers currently in Cabo or with upcoming plans?

What Travelers Need To Know
Here at The Cabo Sun, we know that news of a potential storm can be unsettling. However, the key is preparedness, not panic. Los Cabos is a world-class destination that is exceptionally well-prepared for this type of weather.
- Resorts Are Ready: Every major resort in Los Cabos has a detailed and well-practiced hurricane and tropical storm plan. These protocols are designed to ensure guest safety and comfort. Staff are highly trained, and the buildings themselves are constructed to withstand strong winds and rain. Your hotel is the safest place to be and will provide you with all necessary information.
- Plan for a Rainy Day: The most likely impact from a passing system like this is a day or two of rain and wind. This is a perfect opportunity to plan some alternative activities. Consider booking a spa treatment at your resort, exploring the high-end shops at Luxury Avenue, or visiting one of the many fantastic indoor restaurants in downtown Cabo.

- Stay Informed with Official Sources: For the most accurate, up-to-the-minute information, it is crucial to rely on official sources. Do not rely on social media rumors. The best resource is the U.S. National Hurricane Center (hurricanes.gov), which provides real-time tracking maps and forecasts for all systems in the Pacific.
- Respect The Ocean: During this period, you can expect high tides and dangerous surf conditions. Red and black flags will be flying on the beaches, and it is critical that you obey them. Do not enter the water. Port closures for boat tours and water taxis are also likely, so check with your tour operator for any schedule changes.

The bottom line is to stay aware, be flexible with your plans, and trust in the local authorities and resort staff who are experts in managing these situations. A little bit of rain doesn’t have to ruin a great Cabo vacation.
