Los Cabos has had a hugely successful year in terms of tourism, and the year isn’t over yet, literally or figuratively. In fact, through the end of the year, hotels in Los Cabos are expected to maintain high occupancy rates, particularly on the weekends, with estimates of at least 80 percent. Although the busiest season for tourism is in the spring, winters are typically busy in Mexican vacation destinations like San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas too.
According to the Hotel Association of Los Cabos executive president Lilzi Orcí Fregoso, the days between Thanksgiving and the following Sunday are expected to bring in a large number of tourists. This makes it an important time for hotels and businesses in Los Cabos. This was pointed out by Fregoso, who said, “Next weekend, which is Thanksgiving, is very important in terms of tourist occupancy and airflow for the tourist destination. The truth is that this is an important date for our destination, where our main market is the American one, travels to Los Cabos to spend these days, and obviously, the hotels prepare the traditional Thanksgiving dinner for them.”
During this time, over 30,000 tourists are expected to visit the area, translating to about 83 percent occupancy. This is an increase in numbers compared to both 2019 and 2021, which were pre-pandemic and post-pandemic years. The executive president further stated that there will be “an approximate 83% forecast for that weekend, visitors begin to arrive on Wednesday and Thursday; obviously, we expect them to stay all weekend,” and that “this is an economic trigger for the tourism industry during this high season.”

Los Cabos Holidays
Thanksgiving weekend, which gives some lucky Americans at least four days off, is a popular time to visit Los Cabos, and the tourism industry is aware of this. Many luxury hotels and resorts, including a lot of all-inclusives, prepare lavish traditional Thanksgiving feasts for their guests visiting during this time. For those looking for something other than the traditional Thanksgiving feast of turkey and all the fixings, there are plenty of options as well.
The Christmas holiday is another popular time for tourists visiting Los Cabos from the U.S. and Canada. The celebrations of the holiday, with unique Mexican and Mayan traditions mixed in, lasts much longer than it does in the states or Canada. Festivities begin as early as the beginning of December, at which time visitors will start being able to enjoy things like concerts and carol singing, but the biggest celebrations take place between the 12th of December and the 6th of January.
Both of the holidays will bring in a large influx of visitors to San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. The two cities are what make up the destination of Los Cabos that foreign tourists have come to love so much. San Jose del Cabo is more akin to a small village, with old-town charm and character, while Cabo San Lucas is more vibrant, with more large luxury resorts and fancy restaurants.
Between the two parts of Los Cabos, a total of more than 7 million tourists are expected to visit by the end of this year. During the busy season in the spring, in the first six months of the year, a total of 3.5 million people flew into the Los Cabos International Airport located in San Jose del Cabo. If the predictions are correct, that means a lot more people will be visiting the area over the next several weeks.
Los Cabos has a lot to offer for tourists during the winter, especially for those living in places that get cold during those months. Ample sunshine, mild temperatures, unique activities, and festive celebrations are all perfect reasons to visit Los Cabos in the winter.
