When it comes to high-end travel, the global benchmark for elite hospitality has officially shifted toward the Los Cabos.
According to the latest data from Virtuoso—the world’s leading global network specialized in luxury tourism and agencies—Los Cabos has established itself as the region with the single highest concentration of ultra-luxury properties in all of Latin America.
While Mexico as a whole dominates the luxury market with 75 Virtuoso-affiliated properties, a closer look at the local data reveals that Los Cabos is completely outpacing its regional and global competitors.
The destination is no longer just a casual beach getaway; it has transformed into an international lifestyle capital for affluent travelers who demand absolute excellence.

Dominating The Latin American Market
The sheer density of five-star, high-end hospitality in Los Cabos is difficult to find anywhere else in the world.
When breaking down the top destinations in Latin America by their number of ultra-exclusive Virtuoso properties, the municipality sweeps the leaderboard:
- Cabo San Lucas: 9 ultra-luxury properties
- Playa del Carmen: 8 ultra-luxury properties
- Rio de Janeiro: 7 ultra-luxury properties
- San José del Cabo: 5 ultra-luxury properties

Combined, the municipality of Los Cabos boasts 16 elite properties representing more than 2,000 ultra-luxury rooms.
To put that into a global perspective, Rodrigo Esponda, the Managing Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Fund (FITURCA), noted that iconic European hubs like Madrid, Spain, host only 7 Virtuoso hotels—meaning Los Cabos features more than double the ultra-luxury inventory of a major European capital.

The Elite 16: Los Cabos’ Virtuoso Properties
The properties that make up this prestigious network are globally recognized for setting the standard in architecture, culinary innovation, and elite service. The 16 local properties currently holding this exclusive designation include:
- Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Collection
- Esperanza, Auberge Collection
- Grand Velas Boutique Hotel Los Cabos
- Grand Velas Los Cabos
- Las Ventanas Al Paraiso, A Rosewood Resort
- MEA Wisdom
- Montage Los Cabos
- Nobu Hotel Los Cabos
- One&Only Palmilla

Moving From Lodging To A Curated Lifestyle
The secret behind the region’s massive success in this segment goes far beyond high nightly room rates or stunning infinity pools. According to industry leaders on the ground, the ultra-luxury market here has successfully evolved to treat luxury as a seamless daily lifestyle.
In a recent interview, Eduardo Segura Vehovec, the General Manager of The Cape, a Thompson Hotel—one of the standout local properties featuring direct, front-facing views of the famous Cabo San Lucas Arch—explained that highly personalized experiences are what keep affluent travelers returning.
The focus has completely shifted to anticipating a guest’s needs before they even arrive, curating private excursions, and building genuine, multicultural connections. This hyper-focused approach to service has turned the destination into a haven for travelers who prioritize absolute quality over everything else.

Private Jets and The Arrival of Amanvari
The economic impact of this luxury boom is staggering. FITURCA recently reported that in 2025 alone, more than 100,000 high-net-worth international visitors arrived in Los Cabos via private aviation, specifically seeking out the destination’s safety, privacy, and natural diversity.
The crown on the region’s ultra-luxury status will be firmly placed on August 1, 2026, when the legendary ultra-luxury brand Aman officially opens its very first Mexican property, Amanvari, out on the East Cape. Featuring just 18 ultra-exclusive casitas, its own private landing strip, organic farms, and a private marina, the arrival of Aman represents the ultimate consolidation of the ultra-luxury market in Baja.
According to Lilzi Orcí, President of the Los Cabos Hotel Association, focusing promotional efforts on this elite tier gives the destination a massive competitive advantage. It allows Los Cabos to generate immense economic revenue and support thousands of high-quality local jobs, all while ensuring the peninsula avoids the pitfalls of mass tourism and preserves its pristine natural beauty.
