Los Cabos’ New Roundabout is 94% Complete—and Likely Opening Early for Faster Airport Rides

We’ve all been there: white-knuckling the armrest while stuck in that infamous Fonatur traffic, praying we don’t miss our flight. It’s been the one major headache in an otherwise perfect paradise, but the wait is almost over.

We’ve been tracking the progress of the massive new intersection, and the latest update from city officials is even better than we expected.

If you have a trip planned for late May or June, your commute from the airport is about to get a whole lot smoother.

The Finish Line Is Finally In Sight

The iconic roundabout—formerly known as Fonatur—has been officially renamed “Mujeres Libres de Baja California Sur” (Free Women of Baja California Sur).

Here is the breakdown of why we are so excited:

  • The project is currently over 94% complete.
  • Crews are entering the final phase and could be finished in just two or three weeks.
  • While the original deadline was set for June, officials believe it could open a full month early.

Why Your Airport Run Just Got Easier

We know how much a 20-minute delay can mess up your vacation vibes, but this new design is built for speed.

The transformation is already looking completely different than the old, congested layout we used to navigate.

  • Workers are currently laying the final asphalt layer to ensure a smooth ride.
  • The underpass is being finalized, which will help bypass the heaviest traffic.
  • Brand-new traffic lights have already been installed to keep everything moving.

A Total Urban Transformation

We are thrilled to see this project nearing the end because it’s about more than just paving roads. It’s a total visual upgrade for the entrance to our beautiful city.

The Director General of Urban Development, Roberto Flores Rivera, noted that the area is finally looking like the world-class destination it is meant to be.
