Los Cabos is quickly becoming one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world and also one of the most expensive.
You’ve surely seen the social media influencers, Instagram accounts, and TikTok reviews of various hotels and stays in the Los Cabos area.
With luxurious beaches, a wide variety of entertainment and food options, and home-away-from-home hotel accommodations, tourists have been flocking to Los Cabos like never before.
The Baja California Sur hotspot’s tourism has skyrocketed this year, with numbers of international tourists higher than ever before.
As a result of this, with hotel occupancy rates high year-round, the prices have also stayed relatively high for accommodation, dining, and entertainment, as well as airfare.
As one of the most sought-after luxury destinations, Los Cabos has become fairly expensive all around.
The solution to avoiding these high costs in terms of hotels and ocean-based activities has been to book your stay with all-inclusive resorts, but what’s the solution for high airfare prices?
This week, a low-cost U.S. airline announced their new and upcoming flights to Los Cabos from this particular U.S. city.
Southwest Flights to Los Cabos
Starting October 7, the traveler-favorite airline Southwest will be launching seasonal, weekly direct flights to San José del Cabo from Kansas City International Airport in Missouri.
The short 3-and-a-half-hour flights from Kansas City to San José del Cabo expand Kansas City International Airport’s list of international destinations, allowing travelers from the Midwest to access the destination easily.
The non-stop flights from Kansas City International Airport to San José del Cabo depart at 10:40 am and arrive at 12:10 pm, and the return flights from San José del Cabo to Kansas City International Airport depart at 11:35 am and arrive at 5:25 pm.
Southwest is known for low costs, great deals, and numerous offers in terms of flights going in and out of the Midwest.
The airline also has a rewards system program that allows customers to use points for rental cars and hotels as well as flights in order to lower travel costs significantly.
With Southwest, you can check 2 bags and a carry-on at no cost, and you can choose your seat on the flight (so if you want to sit up front, you can with no reservation).
Also, if you need to re-book or cancel your flight with Southwest Airlines, you can do so at no cost and without incurring any additional cancellation fee, while other airlines charge hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
The airline also runs direct flights to Los Cabos from various other U.S. cities including Austin (Texas), Baltimore (Maryland), Chicago-Midway (Illinois), Denver (Colorado), Houston-Hobby (Texas), Oakland (California), Orange County and Santa Ana (California), Phoenix (Arizona), Sacramento (California), and San Diego (California).
What To Do In San José del Cabo
Although Cabo San Lucas is by far the most popular tourist destination in Los Cabos, it doesn’t mean that San José del Cabo doesn’t have its own charms and isn’t worth visiting.
In San José del Cabo, you can explore the main square, head to one of the city’s many art galleries, or spend a day having fun in the sun on the beach.
The beach activities in San José del Cabo mirror those found in other locations in Los Cabos, and while there you can scuba dive, snorkel, horseback ride, paddleboard, kayak, and more.
In San José del Cabo, you can also visit the Plaza Artesanos outdoor shopping mall and buy locally-made souvenirs, jewelry, clothing, and other artisan goods.
You can also treat your taste buds and further indulge your inner shopaholic by visiting a local outdoor farmer’s market, San José del Cabo Mercado Organico.
Although Cabo San Lucas is much greater in terms of sheer size, San José del Cabo has a lot to offer tourists with its entertainment, dining, and accommodation options.
