Traffic at Los Cabos Airport has steadily been increasing, and now millions of visitors arrive at the destination every year.
In an effort to keep up with demand, there have been some expansions to the airport itself, but the newest improvement isn’t so much about keeping up with demand but improving safety.
Specifically, this new security operation will keep tourists safer at Los Cabos Airport.
The New Airport Security Operation
In order to improve security at Los Cabos Airport, a new base for operations is being built for the Secretariat of National Defense, also referred to as SEDENA.
The goal is to enhance security at Los Cabos Airport in order to protect the millions of visitors who arrive every year, a number that continues to rise.
Furthermore, it is the hope of the airport’s director and other officials that the presence of the base will give potential tourists more confidence in the safety and security of the destination.

A Base For Security Operations
According to the airport’s director, Francisco Villaseñor, more than half a million dollars will be spent on constructing the base right on the airport property.
He stated that “This operational base is to have a detachment directly at the airport, possibly SEDENA will give it to the National Guard, according to the information they are currently giving us.”
He went on to say that the base will have “bedrooms, recreation areas, kitchen, parking,” and that it will be “a fairly large area.”

Additional Benefits Provided By The Base
In addition to adding to the perception of security, and making the airport safer, the new Secretariat of National Defense base will provide other benefits too.
Its presence, and the presence of security officials, will also allow for a quick response to any incident that might arise at the airport.
This provides a more effective way to address situations like confrontations at the airport or foreigners arriving with firearms, for example.

Security Operations In Los Cabos
While this may be the first security operation of its kind to be launched at Los Cabos Airport, it is not the first in Los Cabos.
Security operations in the form of patrolling guards take place in the tourist areas of the destination fairly regularly.
They are especially present during the busy seasons of winter and spring when most tourists arrive in Los Cabos.
