In a major shift for local transportation, three of Cabo’s main taxi stands have officially joined forces to create a brand-new digital booking platform. Named the “Baja Taxi App,” the platform will allow travelers to hail local cabs directly from their smartphones instead of having to find a taxi rank or ask a resort concierge to call one for them.

While the app was recently presented by local taxi union leaders, it is coming soon to iOS and Android app stores. Once available, it promises to bring a new level of convenience, safety, and modern features to traditional taxi rides across the region.

When the app officially hits app stores, it will be free to download on both iPhone and Android, with no subscriptions or sign-up fees.

The launch is being led by three major taxi ranks in Cabo San Lucas: Sitio El Arco, Sitio Suchpaca, and Sitio Mar de Cortés. Combined, these stands are bringing just over 200 local taxis onto the app right out of the gate.

Because of this sizable fleet, the service will run 24 hours a day. Whether you need an early morning ride out to the marina or a late-night lift back to your hotel, you will be able to request a cab directly to your location.

To ensure higher service standards, the app enforces strict requirements for participating drivers:

While the app is starting with 200 taxis in Cabo San Lucas, union leaders noted that the invitation is open for other taxi stands across the entire state of Baja California Sur to join the platform. While the announcement of the Baja Taxi App brings great safety and digital convenience features, there are a few key details travelers should keep in mind before looking for it on their phones.

First, the official announcement makes no mention of fixed rates or upfront fare calculations. At this time, it is not yet confirmed whether the app will lock in your fare before the ride begins, or how pricing will be managed during peak travel hours.

Additionally, based on how similar local transit apps have launched in other Mexican destinations, these platforms are often released on the Mexican App Store and Google Play Store first before rolling out to international accounts. This means foreign travelers might experience a slight delay in being able to download the app directly on their home app store accounts.
