It’s been more than 15 years since the last international flight from the United States arrived in La Paz.
On July 23, 2008, AeroCalifornia ceased operations with La Paz International Airport as its hub. For about 20 years, the airline was the international flight connection between Los Angeles and La Paz. It also offered service from Tucson and Phoenix.
Since then, travelers to the Baja California Sur capital city had to fly to Los Cabos and find transportation to enjoy popular nature tourist destinations like Isla Espiritu Santo.
Talks have been underway to help travelers with nonstop flights to La Paz.
Last year, airport officials were getting close with nonstop flights between Los Angeles and La Paz with Volaris. However, those talks stalled as Volaris ran into issues with the Pratt & Whitney engine recall repairs.
However, to the delight of tourists who love vacation getaways in La Paz, that’s all about to finally change.
Los Angeles Nonstop Flights
Tourists looking to enjoy other parts of Baja California Sur beyond Los Cabos will now be able to enjoy nonstop flights between Los Angeles and La Paz.
Tickets for the Alaska Airlines flight went on sale on July 3 for the year-round service with flights at least twice weekly starting Wednesday, November 20.
Alaska flight AS3437 will depart Los Angeles International Airport at 10:45am and arrive at La Paz International Airport at 1:12pm. It will then depart La Paz at 3:02pm and arrive back in Los Angeles at 4:41pm.
The route will use a Skywest branded Embraer jet carrying 76 passengers.
“We appreciate Alaska Airlines’ confidence in investing in the virtues of La Paz and providing it with the opportunity to expand its borders by connecting with the United States. Especially with its flight to Los Angeles, California, which we are sure will be a success,” said Maribel Collins, minister of tourism and economy of Baja California Sur.
What is There to See in La Paz?
While most of the tourists believe Los Cabos are the only two cities in Baja California Sur, there are actually some very special places for travelers to enjoy beyond Los Cabos.
What is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the entire world is close to La Paz.
Not only is Playa Balandra one of the most amazing places to enjoy the sun, sand, and surf of Baja California Sur, but it is also a great place for snorkeling with ocean creatures such as reef sharks, stingrays, and plenty of amazingly beautiful fish.
Another popular place is Isla Espiritu Santo where tourists can observe sea lions at play and even get a unique opportunity to swim with whale sharks.
That’s just the nature side of La Paz. Travelers also get to enjoy a town with trendy restaurants, cultural activities, and even nearby luxury boutique resorts.
There definitely is plenty for tourists to enjoy and experience on a vacation getaway to La Paz.
What Travelers Need to Know
If you need a reason to visit Baja California Sur again, this new nonstop flight from Los Angeles to La Paz is another great opportunity to enjoy a vacation getaway.
A city full of great nature activities, great foodie restaurants, fun cultural events and nearby boutique luxury resorts awaits you.
“We look forward to welcoming travelers to La Paz and continuing to provide greater ease for foreign tourists to visit this city,” said Raúl Revuelta Musalem, CEO of the Pacific Airport Group.
Alaska Airlines starts its nonstop service between Los Angeles and La Paz on November 20, just in time for the Fall holiday travel season.
