Los Cabos tourism is best known for its beaches and ocean-based activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, whale watching, and more.

When local authorities close the beaches of Los Cabos, it doesn’t mean that all opportunities for adventure cease to exist.

Hurricane Hilary and the other weather issues in Los Cabos recently have caused beach closures for short periods of time and, in turn, actually promoted a different type of tourism in the region: rural tourism. 

A recent announcement from Roberto Jiménez Moreno, the president of the Tourism Commission, made it clear that on International Tourism Day, local officials made an effort to promote the San Dionisio region to tourists and locals. 

International Tourism Day, celebrated annually on September 27, is a holiday that was first celebrated in 1980, and since then, Los Cabos officials have continued the tradition of promoting certain aspects of local tourism and support sectors, including hotels, restaurants, and more. 

This holiday has not only spread the word about the San Dionisio region in particular, but it has also boosted tourism in general and supported locals in gaining jobs in various tourism sectors. 

In addition to the clean and beautiful beaches, Los Cabos is known for its extraordinary biodiversity and variety in terms of outdoor activities, and that is precisely what you’ll find in the San Dionisio region. 

A great example of what rural tourism has to offer travelers, here’s what you need to know about visiting the San Dionisio region in Los Cabos. 

The San Dionisio Region 

The San Dionisio region is finally getting all the hype it deserves, as it offers amazing views of the BCS and is home to various types of wildlife.

This municipality in the northern part of Los Cabos is a unique excursion that is becoming more popular with tourists. 

Crowd-free and filled with wildlife, the San Dionisio region is the best place to find some peace in an oasis slightly removed from the tourist hotspots while observing the beauty of nature in the area. 

There is a wide variety of ranches in the area that are open to visitors from far and wide and host a range of activities for groups or individuals to enjoy.

While visiting one of these ranches, you can go hiking, climbing, swimming in thermal hot springs, horseback riding, fishing, and more, all with the help of a guide. 

You can also participate in food-related workshops, create something in a craft workshop, or learn about photography with amazing views to capture right in front of your lens.

With the help of knowledgeable locals, you can also learn about agricultural practices in the region (agrotourism).
