These Two Los Cabos Markets Are The Best Places To Get Souvenirs

Vendors selling souvenirs are everywhere in Los Cabos, often packing the beaches and sometimes overwhelming tourists that are just looking for some rest and relaxation. These vendors, and many of the local souvenir shops in the more touristy areas of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, typically sell the same kinds of items.  There are two Los Cabos markets, though, that are the best places to get souvenirs because you can find some authentic Mexican goods to take home.

Local And Regional Products

The best souvenirs to take home are authentic reminders of your time in Mexico, namely, Mexican handicraft items made by local and regional artisans.  These are items like traditional textiles, handcrafted pottery, silver jewelry, glassware, handmade hammocks, art, spices, and more.  There are plenty of individual stores where you can buy such items, but you would have to go from store to store, whereas, at one of these great markets, you can get everything in one place.

Plaza Artesanos

Plaza Artesanos is an expansive market located in San Jose del Cabo that you can spend an entire day exploring.  There are more than 75 vendors in addition to places where you can get a good cup of coffee, a bite to eat, or a cold beer. You’ll find shops with the average inexpensive souvenirs, but you’ll also find local artisan shops with authentic Mexican hand-crafted items.

Marina Mercado

Marina Mercado is a market similar to Plaza Artesanos located in the marina area of Cabo San Lucas, in a location with a history dating back more than 20 years.  Here you’ll find everything from handmade bags to Mexican folk art, jewelry, figurines, and even beautifully designed dinnerware.  The market is set up in a flea-market style, and like at a flea market, some haggling might help you get some better prices on some of your items.

Other Markets Worth Visiting

Another great market to get local goods is the San Jose del Cabo Mercado Orgánico, which is only open on Saturdays, but if you happen to be in town, it’s worth visiting.  El Merkado, located in the Koral Center in San Jose del Cabo, is mostly dedicated to food, but some souvenirs are available too, and it is definitely worth a visit.  The European-style market is spanned out over three floors, and it is more than 11,000 square feet of food paradise waiting to be explored.

Market Shopping Tips

Exchange rates vary in Los Cabos, depending on where you make a purchase and what type of payment you use for the purchase.  Using pesos is likely to get you a better deal in the long run.  It’s also important to remember that many of these smaller shops might not take credit cards, so you’ll want to have cash on you when shopping.

Everything In One Place

You only want shopping to take up so much of your time while you are on vacation, but you will definitely want to bring home some souvenirs from your trip.  Shopping at these markets lets you get a lot done in one place.  This way, you can get back to doing what a vacation is meant for, relaxing and having fun.

In 2022 over 4 million tourists visited Los Cabos, vacationing in either Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo.  The region’s breathtaking scenery, luxury all-inclusive resorts, opportunities for adventure, and stunning beaches are what draw so many of these tourists.  But with all there is to enjoy, there is always still time to shop for an authentic reminder of your time spent in Los Cabos.
